What is that sound the MRI machine is making? If this is your 1st MRI, you may be unaware of a very distinct noise the MRI machine makes. Due to rapid pulses of gradients, the coils are rapidly switched on and off and the gradients in the machine vibrate to make a constant, semi-loud or almost banging sound.

A magnetic field is created around the area to be imaged and rapid pulses cause predictable changes in the field, resulting in tissue changes that can be measured and transformed into anatomic images all while the MRI machine creates its constant sound.

T.J., our expert MRI technologist, offers headphones and soothing music of your choice to make it more comfortable for you and to alleviate the MRI noise.

Check out this awesome video of a song made entirely of MRI noises!
