This is an interesting study on how the brain works using functional MRI (fMRI) brain scans.  What was discovered was interesting and might help you understand why your brain works the way it does!  The study was done at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.  They are hoping this study leads to more understanding of disorders such as Autism, ADHD, and Schizophrenia.

The results in a new study from the fMRI bran scans, shows that empathic and analytic thinking cannot be done at the same time.  Scientists saw that when patients were faced with social problems, analytical thinking was deactivated, while the social and empathy thinking remained active.  When presented with physics questions, the analytic thinking was active, where the social and empathy thinking became inactive.  However, when the participant was in a resting state, not being asked any questions, the brain was cycling between the two networks.  The inner workings of our brain are mysterious but it is interesting to see that MRIs are starting to “read our minds!”
